Couture variations on Cartier bags

Pearls, sequins, wool and shiny threads: the C de Cartier, Panthère de Cartier and Panthère Double bags inaugurate the embroidery of new, festive and delicate materials. These singular bags feature a textured pattern of panther spots, a feline claw, or the iconic CC initials. These embossed prints echo the jewelled clasps on each bag.

Crafted from embroidered beads on a tufted base, the panther spots on the Panthère de Cartier bags evoke a velvety effect. For the signature motif on the Panthère Double bags, the Maison chose a wool yarn on textured leather, whose superimposed layers create the depth and illusion of a three-dimensional print. The Panthère C de Cartier bag features the same motif enhanced with shiny threads on gold calfskin. The Maison's initials, embroidered on the Double C bag, are illuminated by sequins that subtly shift to catch the light.

This culture of the precious bag became part of Cartier's history in the early 1900s. At this time, these were evening accessories, where one of the first featured chain mail with an owl head clasp. In the 1920s, Louis Cartier appointed Jeanne Toussaint—known as 'La Panthère'—to lead the company's accessories department. Under her bold impetus, the bag became a veritable place of creative expression, and this latest collection perpetuates its elegance.
