The most romantic day of the year is upon us, and it's time to celebrate your loved one. However, there is an endless amount of stress attached to Valentine's Day gifts. What message are you sending? Have you been together long enough for jewellery? Not long enough? The inner struggle is very real. To help guide us through this minefield of gifts, we have enlisted the very best, cue jewellery and art expert and founder of Aquae Jewels, Catherine Klastersky, to share her top tips for buying jewellery this Valentine’s Day. So read, relax, and remember, this holiday is all about love.
Listen to your heart, not your head
When you are looking for that perfect piece, my recommendation is to go by eye and what your heart says before your brain kicks in. Like a piece of art, you have to have an affinity with the piece or stone. Remember it’s an emotional reaction you're after: it's not science, it’s love.
It's not just about the price tag
The design is key and that doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot of money. I founded Aquae Jewels for this exact reason, it is about celebrating every woman, every day without compromising on quality or even quantity.
Let’s get personal
Don’t forget to add your personality through subtle design tweaks. Secret messages through personalisation is a beautiful option to show your love and can be done in diamonds or an engraving for example. This is such a romantic idea that I've always loved. It's often the secret messages between loved ones that are my favourite, where they only mean something to the two people involved. We work closely with our clients to ensure we deliver their dream pieces and our intricate design renderings enable them to envision how the final piece will look from every angle.
It should feel good, as well as look good
Go for gold! Don’t compromise on quality (and remember this does not have to break the bank). 18k gold and shimmering diamonds will always be a favourite amongst the ladies. Furthermore, the craftsmanship involved in creating the pieces is very important no matter the size of the stones. How it sits and feels on the body is essential to the way it ultimately looks and to the way you feel about it. It is worth investing in something that is beautifully made. After all, she’ll hopefully be wearing it for a long time!
Mix it up
Don’t get stuck in the headspace of being too traditional. Find pieces that match her style. For example, find pieces that create unique pairings that make way for the new age of mixing and matching, piling and layering. A T-shirt necklace holds its own, but for an off-duty look, it can be paired with the likes of a choker. We have an amazing one at Aquae Jewels called the Rain Choker, which is a minimalist design made of a gold chain with diamond droplets, glistening as they move. If you traverse the Aquae Jewels collections further you will find body chains, bracelets, and anklets that accentuate the silhouette of the wearer with undeniable confidence and are a refreshing option to the more traditional jewellery pieces.
So, when February 14 comes around, do everything in your power to wow the special someone in your life with a gift that they'll cherish forever. While flower deliveries, gourmet chocolates, and teddy bears are lauded as romantic go-to’s, think outside the box this year with unique diamond and gold Valentine's Day gifts for her. I hope this list of top tips can be used to find something for your girlfriend, wife, mother, or best friend that will definitely make her feel the love on Valentine's Day and beyond.
