Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to State of Qatar H E Paulo Neves Pocinho has received at the Embassy of Portugal in Doha the Portuguese community group in a celebration event about Portugal.
At the event, where was shared new words of the new HE Ambassador of Portugal, as it was also present the new interim Management team of Portuguese Business Council, as well the new initiative group “Gente da nossa terra”.
The new Ambassador of Portugal in the State of Qatar, has started the role in the last Quarter of 2022 right before the Football World Cup. Thanks to the initiative “Gente da nossa Terra” as well the new management of the Portuguese Business Council.
HE Paulo Neves Pocinho, Ambassador of Portuguese Embassy in The State of Qatar, commented: “Since I started my duties in the State of Qatar, I have had the opportunity to witness your dynamism, youth and energy, starting with the enormous and fervent support you gave to the national team during the FIFA 2022 World Cup, which made me very proud as a Portuguese citizen and as an Ambassador. The leadership and organizational skills demonstrated at that moment were certainly the germ of what began to be born next.
This sparked a desire to get to know the Portuguese Community in Qatar. The role of portuguese fans of Qatar during the World Cup, as well the new initiative Gente da nossa Terra and the Portuguese Business Council in helping each other to organize and promote initiatives together, has a tremendous potential”.
The community initiative “Gente da nossa Terra” with translation "People of our Land" derives from the commitment and dedication of the leader Ms. Elisabete Reis of the group "Portugal Fans Qatar 2022", allowed moving at a fast pace to connect all the Portuguese fans of different nationalities based in Qatar setting the ball rolling on different fronts.
This dynamic taken during the World Cup was used to not weaken the Portuguese community in Qatar, being the engine to launch the working group for the implementation of “Gente da Sua Terra”, which began to take shape shortly after the Football World Cup by a group of Portuguese citizens in the State of Qatar who decided to cement the sense of community. Several projects have been set in place, in the most diverse perspectives, culturally and socially.
Ana Teixeira, Gente da Nossa Terra has shared: “There are many ideas that we would like to put into practice. Step by step, we will try to boost initiatives in favor of our community interaction. Festive dates, workshops, cultural activities, are some of the examples”.
The Portuguese Business Council PBC was established in Qatar on June 20th of 2016 and is an organization that aims at raising bilateral relations between Portugal and Qatar, mainly in the economic and cultural fields offering support and help to agents of both countries. The new management members of the Portuguese Business Council, Francisco Sousa, Carlos Xavier, Fernando Antunes and Manuel Ramalho have been introduced to the community.
Francisco Miguel De Sousa, Chairman of Portuguese Business Council, followed by Carlos Xavier VP Entreprise Relations, Fernando Antunes Treasurer and Manuel Ramalho VP Institutional Relations have shared: “The Portuguese Business Council believes in the importance of increasing the share of the Portuguese products and services in the local market and the promotion of the activities of these companies. Provides an informal networking platform through which the companies can develop their businesses, in addition promote the participation in various local and international trade fairs and forums organized in Qatar.All Portuguese or foreign companies, as well as citizens resident in Qatar, can be part of this institution.”
