A longtime champion of design excellence, RIMOWA is pleased to continue its tradition of supporting emerging creative talents with the fourth edition of its Design Prize. The annual student competition, supported by leading German design schools and an esteemed jury, concluded with an awards ceremony led by Valerie Präkelt at Berlin’s renowned Kulturforum. Alongside the jury members, honourable guests that include Peri Baumeister, Noah Becker, Luisa Gaffron, Paula Hartmann, Ting Ting Lai, Heike Makatsch, Sven Marquardt, Louis Philippson, Thilo Reich, Justus Riesner, Anna Rommel, Gina Stiebitz, Lina Larissa Strahl, Max Strohe, and Langston Uibel were also in attendance. The finalists’ projects were on view to the public until May 13th, inviting visitors to discover them first-hand.

After careful jury deliberations, supported by RIMOWA’s Chief Executive Officer Beatrice Monguidi and Chairman at RIMOWA Alexandre Arnault, seven finalists were awarded a series of prizes.

First place went to Samuel Nagel and Paul Feiler (Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd), mentored by Tim Richter. They presented NURA, an elegant wearable bracelet that translates sign language into spoken language and converts speech into visible text to support seamless communication between deaf and hearing individuals.

A special mention was awarded to Niklas Henning (Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal), mentored by Stefan Daniel, for his project Paludi Harvester. This coordinated harvesting system is designed to restore peatlands while maintaining agricultural productivity and protecting delicate ecosystems through efficient reed harvesting and processing under extreme environmental conditions.

The remaining five finalist projects were also honoured:

·      Tim Kipper and John Roller (Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd) mentored by Clemens Poloczek

·      Tobias Kremer and Yannick Stilgenbauer (Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar) mentored by Konstantin Grcic

·      Nicolas Nielsen (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar) mentored by Matylda Krzykowski

·      Valerio Sampognaro (HFBK Hamburg) mentored by Farah Ebrahimi.

·      Jakob Schlenker (Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd) mentored by Hanne Willmann

All seven finalist projects received a monetary award. The winning project was granted €20.000, the special mention was awarded a €10.000 prize, and the projects in third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh place each won €5.000.
