Discovery Dunes, the region's first members-only residential community, is introducing next level hospitality and design with the launch of Discovery Land Company’s signature comfort stations. The comfort stations are designed by award-winning architect Shaun Killa and will be fully operational across the newly opened 18-hole private Tom Fazio-designed championship course. These unique hangouts peppered throughout the course aren’t just a break from the game, they’re havens of relaxation to complement a leisurely round of golf.
First-of-its-kind Discovery Dunes debuts on-course experience comfort stations designed by renowned Dubai-based architect, Shaun Killa
The comfort stations are thoughtfully designed to blend with the character of the course and amplify the flair of the community adding to the relaxed energy of sport and offering an unforgettable on-course escape. For those who may not play golf, from families enjoying a day outdoors to children exploring the course on their buggies, these stops also create welcoming moments to pause, recharge, and take in the views. Members can refuel in shaded terraces while enjoying a curated selection of their favorite treats, healthy snacks, local fare, and refreshing drinks, much of it supplied by the on-property organic farm and gardens. Whether teeing off at sunrise or finishing the back nine, these signature comfort stations create a truly resort-like pause amidst the game, providing a welcome respite for a relaxed day on the course.
"At Discovery Dunes, we are continuously seeking ways to enhance the lifestyle we offer our members," said Mohammed Alawadhi, CEO of Discovery Dunes. "As the region’s first private golf course and residential community, we’ve brought with it one of Discovery’s signature touches. Our comfort stations have become destinations in themselves. From Discovery’s unforgettable peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and freshly brewed coffee in the morning or grill-fired specialties and handcrafted beverages, we’re creating places where members want to stay, connect, and enjoy the game beyond the green with family."
The idea of comfort stations started with Discovery’s Founder and Chairman, Mike Meldman, back in 1994. Wanting to make the game more fun for his two young sons, he would stash coolers filled with sodas and candy along the tee boxes, knowing that finding these little treasures would be just as exciting for them as hitting a great shot. That simple idea quickly turned into a Discovery tradition. What began as hidden treats became purpose-built comfort stations filled with snacks, drinks and a few surprises, making every round more relaxed and social. Today, they’ve become a signature of Discovery clubs around the world, each one shaped by its own community but always carrying that same playful spirit Mike started all those years ago.
Delivers an entirely new standard of leisure for golfers and families alike
Thoughtfully integrated into the landscape through Shaun Killa’s signature sculptural approach, the comfort stations embody Discovery’s ethos and commitment to exceptional, amenity-driven design. Ideal for families, social golfers, and those seeking a more immersive on-course experience beyond a traditional round of golf.
“Our vision for the comfort stations was to create sculptural, context-driven spaces that offer moments of retreat and reconnection throughout the course,” said Shaun Killa, Design Partner at Killa Design. “Each station is shaped by its surrounding landscape and designed to blur the boundaries between architecture, leisure, and nature, delivering an experience that is both elevated and effortless. Discovery Dunes gave us the opportunity to rethink the way golfers and families engage with the course, not just as a sporting venue, but as a lifestyle destination.”
The first comfort station, named Tee Top, is located on the 5th hole of the course, and is discreetly nestled into the dunes landscape. Deliberately low and sculptural, echoing the terrain around it, its design embraces a material palette of natural limestone, brushed steel, and sun-baked timber. This early stop is perfect for a sunrise bite, members can refuel with light refreshments, including fresh-baked pastries, breakfast burritos, fruit-packed açaí bowls, and signature sandwiches, all readily available from warming drawers and grab-and-go counters. The drinks menu is comprehensive, featuring specialty coffees, cold brew on tap, fresh smoothie blends, and even a DIY breakfast corner. It’s an unexpected twist that captures the casual character of the course - spontaneous and fun, where breakfast and the perfect swing come together.
Golf course also features Discovery-designed Hangs inspired by the relaxed American tradition of simply hanging out
Overlooking the signature Par 3, located on the 13th hole, the second comfort station, also known as Tap Room, invites golfers to soak in panoramic views of the lake. Its architecture will frame the landscape through wide openings and a shaded terrace, allowing the natural surroundings to spill in while offering a moment of calm. A cooler, more relaxing palette defines the space: blue and teal tiles, and natural stone countertops. Members can refuel on the second nine with a selection of snacks from around the world, smash-burgers from the grill, and a menu of handcrafted beverages. It's a station that invites you to pause between golf shots and take in the quiet luxury of the course before finishing the back nine.
Complementing these comfort stations is a series of Hangs—creative, Discovery-designed gathering spots inspired by the relaxed American tradition of simply hanging out. While the comfort stations provide a sculptural pause, the Hangs are designed as vibrant social hubs. The Lake House, overlooking the 11th hole, was the first of these destinations, establishing the concept as a place to pause, connect, and create lasting memories with family. More recently, the SHK Shack was introduced between Holes 9 and 10. Offering an authentic mid-round Hang with majlis-style seating and panoramic sunset views, SHK Shack serves freshly made shawarma and TukTuk coffee, providing a welcoming space for members to connect and savor the regional flavor of the community.
As Dubai cements its position as a global destination for high-end experiences, the city's golf sector is seeing unprecedented growth. With 13 world-class courses already in play and golf tourism projected to reach US$1.34 billion by 2030, Discovery Dunes is uniquely positioned with the UAE’s first and only private golf course designed by the legendary Tom Fazio, and now, the first on-course comfort stations of this caliber.
The comfort stations shine a light on Discovery Dunes' commitment to thoughtfulness and to setting new benchmarks in the private golf and luxury service industry. The region has witnessed notable growth in the golf sector, which is expected to have a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.6% from 2025 to 2030 . As the first amenity of its kind in the region, at this level of execution, they mark a new chapter in Dubai's golf and leisure evolution, leading a new era in experiential golf where sport, hospitality, and social connection coexist on every fairway.
